What do you know about Listerine?

Listerine is an antiseptic mouthwash product that comes in the form of a lotion. They are found to have Thymol (an ingredient that contributes to its anti-fungal and antibacterial properties) in abundance. The presence of alcohol also makes them effective enough in fighting against bugs. Hence listerine is also used for preventing bacteria and bugs from attacking plant cells. It’s antiseptic properties makes them effective in many applications like getting rid of dandruff, killing germs, cleaning toothbrush, as mouthwash, for soothing skin etc.

Yet another fact is that, soaking foot is an inexpensive process even if it means the usage of additives like listerine or vinegar. Moreover, it consumes very little time. However many people are not open to the idea of using listerine, as they are not really sure about the effects that listerine can have on their foot. But Listerine has been used as a mouthwash for many years. So obviously there is nothing wrong in soaking your foot on listerine, if you can put it in your mouth!

During climate changes, our foots are bound to lose skin cells and this might lead to cracks on feet. So the most important part of removing dead skin lies in exfoliation and this can’t be achieved by performing foot soak alone!

Sometimes additives like listerine, vinegar or other essential oils will be needed to improve the effects. Even more choices are available in the form of fruit acids, salts and scrubs.

It is assumed that soaking foot with listerine can cure even the most compact and cracked feet in a single attempt. In fact listerine foot soak is also found to work with in combination with a bit of vinegar. Let us now see it’s recipe and learn the steps for a wonderful foot soak experience.

Recipe for Listerine Foot Soak
Ingredients :

1 cup of Antiseptic Listerine (Original “gold” version is recommended)
    1 cup of White Vinegar
2-3 cups of water (preferably warm)

Process :

You can start of the process by mixing up all the above mentioned ingredients in a pan which is large enough to hold the water and cover up your feet. On a normal routine, it is advised to soak the feet on water for about 20 minutes and it is also fine to add in hot water periodically just to keep the water warm. Because if you don’t add hot water periodically, after 10-15 minutes the water in the pan will reach room temperature.

It is also advised to add a mixture of vinegar or menthol to this solution on pan. After a while when you pull out your feet from this mixture, it will smell really good. Sometimes this procedure will not entirely get rid of the dry skin on your feet. On such occasions you might have to use a stone or a hard object to rub them off (preferably pumice stone). It is found that listerine will make rubbing off the dry skin with stone a lot more easier.

The bottom line is that there is no magic pill which is capable of keeping your foot soft and smooth. The important thing is to use good quality products consistently without fail and try to establish a good foot care routine.

As we discussed earlier, many additives can also be used effectively along with this solution, for instance vinegar is found to work well with listerine. So let’s see how it works.

Incredible Effects of Listerine Vinegar Foot Soak

Vinegar is an acetic acid with antibacterial properties, but a high dose of vinegar can lead to irritation and uneasiness. But an optimum amount of vinegar can work well in softening the skin and will be easier to exfoliate dead cells.

Once more, the recipe is as follows :

    1 cup of Antiseptic Listerine
1 cup of White Vinegar (but you could use apple cider too)
2-3 cups of water (preferably warm water)

As per the size of your feet and container, you can change the quantity of recipe. Soak your feet for about 10-15 minutes, then use a pumice stone to take off the softened dead skin. This will help to take off a lot of dry skin without spending much time. Even if all of the dry skin is not yet gone, performing couple of another soaks will completely remove the remaining dead skin. Some people recommends this foot soak for maintaining the health of athlete’s foot. So it is always worth a try if you have some time and ingredients readily on hand.

Performing foot bath once or twice a week is found to soften up even super dry areas of skin.
